Joshua 5-10

HEALING AND LIVING IN GILGAL

Joshua was commanded by God to have all men circumcised.  After all, the men who already were, had died on route to their promised land. The Lord swore they would not see the land He promised them because they disobeyed Him. Their 40 year walk to their promised land yielded a large population, from kids to adults. It was these sons Joshua had circumcised. They healed and stayed on in Gilgal. The Lord rolled away the reproach of Egypt from the Israelites who did not obey the Lord. This new generation arrived in their promised land and reaped many blessings from God.   Joshua 5:1-9

GOD LISTENS TO HIS CHILDREN AND CAN GRANT WISHES

It was in Gilgal when the sun stood still.  The Lord listened to one man and stopped the Sun from setting an entire day.  Joshua 10:12-14

GOD REDEEMS AFTER PUNISHMENT

What is your Gilgal?  A time when the Lord lifted his anger and redeemed you into good graces.

OUR GOD IS A GOD OF IMPOSSIBILITIES

When did the Lord act supernaturally to make something good happen as you declared, according to your wishes?

Key to the above story

The story of Gilgal shows people today what awesome miracles God can do.  He listens to His children, and knows they worry.  But He is our Father who can do and wants to bless us, if only we have faith in Him.  The people in Joshua’s time wore robes, tunics, and turbans instead of jeans, T-shits and baseball caps.  They played games like tossing stones close to a stake pounded into the ground. They didn’t play with balls, but they learned how to fight with swords, using sticks as their weapon.  The door to their tents was a flap made from of heavy cloth. This door didn’t do much to keep the dust out of their houses. Often, when the journey is long, the horse would arrive full of froth. The Israelites have olive complexion that is neither white Caucasian or black African-American.  The people passed on their history by storytelling from one generation to the next.  It’s hard to trust that men could win a battle against many kings. That day when the sun stood still, where did the moon go?
