WHAT'S
PERMISSIBLE IS NOT ALWAYS BENEFICAL
Judges 16:1-22

Parents attempt to give their children every advantage for opportunities to
become successful adults. As
Christians, they especially hope that we’ll increase in the knowledge of God
and His Word, love for Jesus, appreciation of the church family, and a
desire to serve the Lord. At
salvation, you are set apart for God’s purposes
(2 Corinthians 5:17).
The Lord has a specific plan for the life of every believer (Ephesians
2:10). And, He provides every
child of His whatever is necessary to accomplish that task (2 Peter 1:3).
Each of us is planted where God wants us. This is the time to grow deep
roots. There is a bright future
for every one of us, “I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, Plans
to prosper you and not harm you, plans for hope and a future.”
(Jeremiah 29:11.) See
the promise?
With God’s promises, come problems.
Our problem is to get through this life without getting bogged down
in sin. Temptations are all
around. As you proceed past and
through thresholds, like driving, graduating high school, entering college,
or the military. Alcohol and
sex are normal and God-given appetites which seem to be roses sprinkled
among the thorns. Do you see the potential problems?
We are not called to debate and argue with temptations, (that’s what the
devil did with Eve), but that is the human thing to do.
This is where it’s wise to follow our faith.
Hang tightly onto truth, no matter how people make fun of how
‘old-fashioned’ it appears. (This is the part about being set apart from the
world.)
It doesn’t take longer than one heartbeat to be enslaved by all kinds of
passions and pleasures. (“I
would live in ongoing malice and envy, being hated and hating others.” Titus
3:3). We don’t want that kind of life.
We want to live in the power and fullness of God’s provision. We want
to continue walking in the truth.
(3 John 3). His
provision is guaranteed when we walk in His truth.
Here’s some questions we can use to check the validity of whether our
temptation is innocent: Is it
good for me? Will it benefit me or my family? Would this hurt someone I
love? Temptation is not racist or sexist; knows no loyalty.
The beast must be tamed before it ruins lives. It’s important to
acknowledge God’s sufficiency to rescue us.
God can and will free us from helplessness in overcoming any
weaknesses. After he demolishes those bonds, we will be able to obey His
commands and gain victory in every situation.
When God gives a promise, He always brings us problems, and always
provides His best when we ‘get it’.
There are no secrets from God, but we have the best
secret of all. The world doesn’t
believe it, doesn’t buy into it, or
think it’s cool. But it is our
strength.
He will
never leave us nor forsake us.
He gets it, He’s been where we are and lived a perfect life so that
we could find our way through our lives.
