CONTRACT WITH GOD

By J.D. Griffith

A.   God, prove yourself. (Before I do what You want)  Number the statements in order of your preference.

____    1. If you tell me why You hurt people, and allow bad stuff to happen,  I’ll consider accepting You as my Savior.

____    2. If You heal my loved one, I’ll consider trusting you.

____    3. If You help me out of my current problem, I may never do it again.

B.    The Deal.  (I’m doing what You want so you must bless me the stuff I want.)

____    1. I’ve been nice to my siblings and do all my chores. Now I want an increase in my allowance.

____    2. I’ve been attending church regularly, so when will good stuff happen?

_____    3. I’ve been involved in the youth group at church, so when will the kids there be my friends?

C.    Convenience (If church fits into my agenda, maybe I’ll go.)

____    1. If it’s not raining Sunday (and if I get up in time), then I’ll go to church.

____    2. If I’m not too busy and there’s nothing else I’d rather do, then I’ll go to church

____    3. If a church program appeals to me, maybe I’ll join.

D.   Disclaimer (The fine print.)

At any point, if Im not 100% satisfied in all areas of my life, I reserve the right to be angry with You. I will ignore You. Possibly yell at You. However, You are still bound to this agreement. You  are responsible for meeting every condition herein, as well as anything else I may have omitted or overlooked.

Do you have a contract with God?  It may not be written on paper, but maybe written on your heart. We tend to make deals in order to not miss out on the good stuff.  In our fallen world, people don’t keep their word, so contracts are necessary. God is the exception. His new contract was made with us when Jesus died on the cross.

The sin that  separates us from God’s absolute holiness, was paid in full by Jesus’ death. All we have to do now is to believe that Christ died for our sins. The good news is we are covered by His grace and never have to make ‘deals’ with the Lord ever again.

If you’ve been dealing with God according to some contract, tear it up. Don’t miss out on the incredible blessings He wants to give you. Trust Him, live under His grace, and watch Him do amazing things.

Our best contracts pale in contrast with the Father’s perfect covenant.  The old

contract, or covenant, is obsolete. Old, kaput, done, outta here.
